What is your favorite part about being a designer?
My favorite part is the connection we make when we first meet with a client. I love diving into their pain points and what doesn’t work for them so we can figure out how to create something that is beautiful and functional. I have a personal connection with every project we take on because I enjoy getting to know the person behind the project and helping them find their own vision in the process — with some gentle guidance from our team, of course!
Who or what would you cite as your most important influence?
Fabric is my design foundation. Its color, texture, and functionality is the ultimate physical manifestation of creativity. I like to use fabric as the core material to really connect and evolve with my clients. It’s not uncommon for me to start with a fabric the client loves and build an entire space around it. Whether it’s a throw pillow, custom barstools or an eye-catching window treatment, the right fabric can drive the feel of an entire room and help the client’s personality shine through.
Can you tell us about your personal brand?
I’m all about creating feel-good spaces. Your home should inspire you when you wake up in the morning and relax you when you come home at night. I’m not afraid of color (when used in the right way!) and I love a good pattern. Our goal as an interior design firm is to transform how our clients feel, function, and live in their spaces. We take design elements and turn them into tools that help clients thrive because a good environment can elevate your happiness and ultimately change your life.
What is your favorite color palette to work with?
Bright, bold & cheerful colors! I have always been attracted to blues, greens and deep colors that can be found in nature. I find them very soothing and tend to be attracted to the rich deeper hues of color. I like to use colors that make people happy. We all had a favorite color when we were growing up – who says we can’t incorporate those into our adult lives?
If you could travel back, what advice would you give yourself as you start this career?
Let others help you because you can’t wear all hats at the same time. In the beginning, I tried to do everything all the time, but I quickly learned that I was losing time for creativity and getting burned out. I have a large network of professionals who are experts in their field that I can trust with all aspects of my business. Just like we suggest clients to trust their interior design needs to us, I have learned to do the same with others who are pros at what they do. I also thrive when I am surrounded by other creative people! As I added to my design team, I have loved watching the creative moments and ideas that happen when we talk through a project together.
